Riding Central Orgegon Horse Trails
Diamond Peak Horse Camps and Trails
|
Diamond Peak was carved by glaciers that created its distinctive shape and left
the area dotted with dozens of small lakes. The Diamond Peak Wilderness Area is flanked by
Odell Lake to the northeast, Crescent Lake to the southeast, and Summit Lake to the south.
Mt. Yoran, Redtop Mountain, and Lakeview Mountain are also located within the wilderness area.

Whitefish Horse Camp:
There are three things that are particularly wonderful about
this horse camp. First, there are over a dozen trails you
can ride right out of camp. Second, there is a water spigot
at each campsite. And third, after a long, hot ride you can
go for a refreshing swim in Crescent Lake, which is less than
a quarter mile from the campground. Advance reservations are
required.
Diamond View/Snell Loop Trail:
As you might expect from the name, Diamond View Lake provides
a lovely view of Diamond Peak across its blue waters. The
trail travels primarily through lodgepole pine forest, with
some stands of hemlock and fir.

|
Fawn Lake Loop Trail:
The highlights of this horse trail include stands of enormous
old-growth timber on the Metolius-Windigo Trail as it runs
along the shore of Crescent Lake, a beautiful view of Fawn
Lake (which in turn provides views of Lakeview and Redtop
mountains), and short side trips to Pretty Lake and Stag Lake.
Meek/Summit Loop:
The portion of this trail that loops from Meek Lake to Summit
Lake is shaded by old-growth hemlocks and firs, and is decorated
with lakes and lily ponds that are strung along the trail
like beads on a necklace. Summit Lake offers a beautiful picnic
spot.
|
Windy/Meek Loop Trail:
The Windy Lakes are very pretty, and the terrain between Meek
Lake and the Windy Lakes features large hemlock and fir trees
and a smattering of picturesque lakes.

|
Windy/Oldenberg Loop Trail:
The Windy Lakes and Oldenberg Lake are lovely and serene,
and the trail between them runs through a very pretty fir
and hemlock forest. The trail to Windy Lakes is best done
on the uphill leg of your ride, as it is fairly steep and
is punctuated at frequent intervals by water diversion logs.
The ride down from Oldenberg Lake is easy.
