Riding Central Orgegon Horse Trails
Northern Three Sisters Horse Camps and Trails
|
The Three Sisters Wilderness area offers some of the most
interesting horseback riding terrain in the country. In addition
to verdant forests, lush meadows, and sparkling lakes, you’ll
see plenty of evidence of the relatively recent volcanic activity
that shaped the region.

|
Three Creek Meadow Horse Camp:
Located amid the creeks, meadows, and alpine lakes on the
north side of the Three Sisters Wilderness area, this camp
offers easy access to a variety of horse trails.
Whispering Pine Horse Camp:
When lingering snows have placed higher-elevation camping
spots out of reach, you can still ride in the Millican and
Scott Pass areas from Whispering Pine Horse Camp.
Black Crater Trail:
On a scale from 1 to 10, the views from the summit
of Black Crater rate a 15. They are arguably the best views
from any horse trail in Central Oregon.
|
| Camp Lake Trail:
If you would like to see each of the Three Sisters mountains
up close, this is the trail to ride.
Millican / Matthieu Lakes Loop Trail:
This loop ride goes through pine forest, along huge lava flows,
over Scott Pass, and past the Matthieu lakes. In a graphic
reminder of the region’s recent volcanic activity, the
Scott Pass area offers expansive views of lava flows and cinder
cones.
Obsidian Loop Trail:
Located in the shadow of North Sister, this scenic
ride features soaring obsidian cliffs, lava moonscapes, immense
cinder cones, sparkling springs, pretty meadows, and sweeping
vistas.
Park Meadow Trail:
Park Meadow is a lush green meadow nestled at the
base of Broken Top and South Sister. This trail has beautiful
scenery and little elevation change.

|
Tam McArthur Rim Trail:
The trail is steep and rocky in places, but the views from
Tam McArthur Rim are worth the climb. You can see the lakes
1,000 feet below, plus Broken Top, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington,
the Three Sisters, and even the town of Bend in the distance.
Three Creek Lake Loop Trail:
This ride features creeks, wildflowers, meadows, lakes, and
forest. The terrain is quite varied, and you’ll pass
both Three Creek Lake and Little Three Creek Lake at the base
of Tam McArthur Rim.
